Taylor - if the Bible tells us to redistribute the wealth, does it really matter how it happens? I mean, even if you truly believe Obama has poor intentions in his plan to tax heavily the rich, the end result is going to be one where God's will is carried out. And that is fact - as illustrated in the Bible passages posted above.

I never said he was trying to apply biblical theology to political life. I said this phrase was derived from the passages in Acts. Just fact.

[...] Practicing Wealth Redistribution (Humor) We need to start practicing for the future of our country… Here is a creative approach to redistribution of wealth as offered in a local newspaper… Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read ‘Vote Obama, I need the money.’ I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a ‘Obama 08? tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference–just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was [...]

Kevin,

So Karl Marx, who taught that religion is the opium of the masses, was simply attempting to apply the biblical theology of the Book of Acts to political life?

Give. me. a. break.

Mr. Marshall, I am not making a comparison yet merely pointing out to those who may not know that this particular tenet, if you will, of Marxism is a derivation of the above mentioned passages in the Bible. As well, it most certainly is not comparing apples to oranges. If you cannot agree that Marx's phrase "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need," stated in 1875 was not in some way influenced, directly or indirectly, by these passages in Acts, then I really do not see a reason for debating this with you any further as it is quite obvious.

Kevin,

I've got no problem with a bunch of pious souls who voluntarily sell all and live in a communal society (we call it monasticism). I worship at a monastery every week. I think it's great.

What I do have a problem with is when the GOVERNMENT imposes the commune structure on people in the name of class warfare.

You and I both know that comparing Marxism to New Testament customs in Jerusalem is like comparing apples to oranges.

Funny that the statements that you are demonizing were first exprssed in THE BIBLE!

And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
(Acts 2:44-45)
(Acts 2:44-45) (King James Version):

44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

and......
...
Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. (Acts 4:34-35)
