The new Catholic archbishop of New York City Timothy Dolan has recently noted that New York is increasingly Spanish speaking. He has committed himself to shepherding and evanglizing the Hispanic/Latino population that has tended to gravitate toward Pentecostal and Evangelical expressions of Christianity.

Iowa Supreme Court rules in favor of homosexual marriage

The Iowa Supreme Court ruled last Friday that gay marriage was a constitutional right.

Earlier this week, Vermont legislators overturned a veto of a gay marriage bill.

So comes the revolution. Sigh.

Has Pastor Rick Warren caved to liberals?

There’s a new article from Life Site News suggesting that Pastor Rick Warren has caved to liberals on the issue of same-sex unions. I’m not fully convinced that this is the case, but he does seem to be growing soft with respect to key issues facing Christians in America.

Denzel Washington’s charity and patriotism

Don’t know whether you heard about this
but Denzel Washington and his family visited
the troops at Brook Army Medical Center , in
San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been evacuated from
Germany come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn victims There are some
buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers’ families can stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying
on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled
most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build.
He took his cheque book out and wrote a cheque for the full amount right there
on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word out to the American
public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it

Why do:

Tom Cruise

and other Hollywood fluff make front page news with their ridiculous
antics and Denzel Washington’s charity
doesn’t even make page 3 in the Metro section of
any newspaper except the local newspaper in San
Antonio.

An economic analogy from Texas Tech

This is an interesting analogy. It says a lot about our country’s future if we stay on this same path……

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.”

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because trying harder to succeed for the greater the reward works, but when a government takes all the reward away, no one will try or succeed, and everyone fails.

(I wonder if academia would today allow experimentation like this and award the class average.)

North Dakota passes anti-abortion bill

Great news folks. North Dakota’s House of Representatives passed a bill 51 to 41 declaring that an embryo possesses human rights from the moment of conception. This is an important development because it challenges the legal assumption of when life begins. Where will this go? Stay tuned for more information.

Live baby murdered after failed abortion in Florida

A Florida woman gave birth to a live baby during an abortion who was then killed. This scenario is tragic. Let us pray for all those involved in this evil.

Gallup: 58% oppose Obama’s executive order on abortion

I find it interesting that the President Obama once claimed that decisions about abortion and the beginning of human life were “above his pay grade” and yet now he’s making executive orders in regard to them. 58% of Americans disagree with the President’s decision to reverse the “Mexico City Policy”. Obama’s decision is both “above [his] paygrade” and contrary to the convictions of people he represents.

Barack Obama signed an executive order late in the afternoon on Friday, January 23 to allow taxpayer funds to go to groups overseas that perform or promote abortions. To minimize press coverage, he signed the order in the absence of reporters and photographers, and the White House waited until 7:00 p.m. to issue a press release, in which the president said: “I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate” on abortion.
